Mystic Aquarium – Home to beluga whales, African penguins, and sea lions. Great for families and animal lovers. Indoor exhibits make it a solid rainy-day option.
Historic Downtown & the Drawbridge – Stroll the charming streets, watch the iconic bascule bridge lift for passing boats, and pop into boutique shops and galleries. It's postcard-perfect Mystic.
Olde Mistick Village – A quaint outdoor shopping village with New England charm, unique shops, and several dining options—all with easy, free parking.
Mystic Museum of Art – A small but thoughtfully curated museum showcasing regional and contemporary art. A nice cultural stop if you have an hour to spare.
Argia Mystic Cruises – Set sail on a classic schooner for a sunset or daytime cruise along the Mystic River and Fishers Island Sound. Reservations recommended, especially in summer.

Host Tip: If you're visiting in peak season (June–August), book your Seaport Museum and Argia Cruise tickets online in advance to skip the lines and secure your spot!

Just a short trip from the Hilltop, Downtown Mystic is a walkable foodie paradise. Whether you want a James Beard-award-winning meal or a casual burger and a game of shuffleboard, here are our local favorites:

The "Night Out" Spots: For a lively atmosphere and incredible food, head to Engine Room (famous burgers, bourbon, and craft beer in a restored factory) or Milestone (New American fare with great energy). If you’re looking for a world-class, chef-driven experience, The Shipwright’s Daughter is a must—their daily-changing menu recently won a James Beard Award.
Cocktails & Late Night: The Port of Call offers sophisticated cocktails and coastal small plates. For a more laid-back vibe, head downstairs to Dive for vintage arcade games, shuffleboard, and karaoke.
Beyond Seafood: If you’ve had your fill of lobster, try Via Emilia for authentic, house-made Italian pasta, or Bleu Ginger for excellent ramen and sushi. We also highly recommend Han Tang Palace for delicious Japanese and Chinese cuisine.
Breakfast & Casual Bites: Start your morning at Popover Eatery for healthy, local breakfast favorites, or grab a fresh, custom salad at Mystic Salad Co. to enjoy by the river. We're also big fans of SIFT Bake Shop. We love their coffee and sweet treats!
Sweet Treats: No trip downtown is complete without a stop at the Mystic Drawbridge area for a cone from Mystic Sweets & Ice Cream or a treat from Mystic River Chocolate Café.

Host Tip: Downtown parking can be tight on summer weekends! We recommend heading down a little early to snag a spot, or using the Uber/Lyft info in our "Practicalities" section so you can enjoy that second cocktail worry-free.
